(Seasonal) Public Safety Attendant

Lower Huron Metropark - Belleville /New Boston, MI - Seasonal

PAY RATE:  $11.65/hour (up to 600 hours per year) 

Eligible part-time employees will receive up to a $3.75 per hour retention bonus for all hours worked from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Additionally, eligible seasonal employees will receive a $0.60 per hour seasonal bonus for all hours worked. For details, click here.

Public Safety Attendants must be 18 years in age or older and may be assigned to work Lower Huron, Willow, Oakwoods and Lake Erie Metroparks. 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Work activities in this position primarily involve providing information to the public; prevention of unsafe conditions and the assurance that park visitors adhere to rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The list below is intended to describe the general nature of duties only. Employee shall perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work primarily with the Police Department and assist the Park Operations Department.
  • Directs traffic and enforces parking and traffic regulations on park property.
  • Answers questions and gives directions to park visitors.
  • Advises park visitors of the park rules and regulations relating to park usage.
  • Assigns and checks park visitor and user permits.
  • Patrols sledding and toboggan hills and other winter sports areas as assigned.
  • Patrols hike/bike trails using bicycle and/or motorized vehicle such as moped, scooter, etc.
  • Renders first aid and summons medical help when necessary. 
  • Protects public from emergency hazards.
  • Assists in the maintenance of area assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to get along with co-workers, supervisors, and park visitors.
  • Ability to operate bicycle, moped, or other type of motorized vehicle.
  • Ability to distinguish letters and symbols.
  • Ability to communicate using telephone and/or radio equipment.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to traverse sandy, marshy and wooded areas with even and uneven terrain.
  • Will be required to 5 days per week including assigned special events, weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Will be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs.
  • Must be able to work 5 days out of the week including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform essential duties.
