(Seasonal) Park Maintenance Worker - Special Events

PAY RATE: $14.52 per hour (up to 600 hours per year or 120 days per season). The seasonal employment time frame is April 17 - October 15.

Eligible part-time employees will receive up to a $5.75 per hour retention bonus for all hours worked from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Additionally, eligible seasonal employees will receive a $0.60 per hour seasonal bonus for all hours worked. Click here for details.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Work activities in this position primarily involve the custodial maintenance of buildings and other park structures. This position primarily works late night special events at our Environmental Discovery Center Banquet Room. Regular Friday and Saturday night availability is essential.  


TYPICAL DUTIES: Employees in this classification will perform one or more of the following:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The list below is intended to describe the general nature of duties only. Employee shall perform other duties as assigned.
  • Setup/take down of event chairs and tables.
  • Remain on site for entirety of special events.
  • Special event trash removal. 
  • Restroom cleaning and maintenance.
  • Window washing.
  • Floor cleaning.
  • Drive 6-passager cart to aid in guest from parking lot to event site.
  • Pick up litter using a prod or by hand.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and maintains an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to load, unload and move materials between work locations.
  • Ability to traverse sandy, marshy or wooded areas with even or uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work varied hours depending upon park demands.
  • Ability to get along with co-workers, supervisors, and park visitors.
  • May be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs, including special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.
  • Ability to perform essential duties.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED: Requires the frequent use of hand tools used for raking, digging, pruning, leveling; custodial tools such as brooms, mops, toilet plungers; some landscape equipment; basic construction tools such as hammers, saws, tape measures, carpenter square. Miscellaneous hand and power tools used for turf maintenance, Less use of personal computer, word processing, phone, radio, calculator and copy machine.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
