SALARY RANGE: $14.15 per hour
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Natural Resources Coordinator, the Natural Resources Volunteer Coordinator will perform a wide range of tasks including the coordination and implementation of the Metroparks Natural Resources Department Volunteer Workday Program and other programs in the field of natural resource management. Working either individually, or in conjunction with other HCMA staff, the candidate will conduct volunteer workdays and recruit new public and corporate volunteers. The candidate will assist in the implementation of Metroparks Natural Resource Management Plans, environmental sustainability efforts and natural resource management activities as required. The candidate may also assist with coordinating organizational sustainability efforts, water quality testing, or related tasks as assigned. This position is part-time up to 1500 hours per year.
Bachelor’s degree in resource management, environmental science, environmental policy or related field preferred.
Experience with ecosystems, plants, and invasive species of the Great Lakes Region.
Experience working with volunteer programs and volunteers is highly desirable.
Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.
Possession of Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment.
Highly motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented, and possess the willingness and ability to work with park staff and volunteers in all weather conditions.
Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
Ability to follow through with projects to completion.
Highly organized with a working knowledge of basic clerical procedures and the ability to multi-task.
Ability to operate tools and equipment such as brush cutters, loppers, trim saws, and herbicide applicators.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
May be required to work assigned Special Events, Weekends, Evenings and Holidays.
May be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs.
Ability to perform essential duties.
