Park Recreation Coordinator (Part-time) - Kensington Metropark Farm Center
LOCATION: Kensington Farm Center
BU / LEVEL: P5 Provisional
SALARY RANGE: $16.40 per hour
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the Kensington Farm Center supervisor, this year-round part time position performs a variety of duties related to the Farm Center’s teamster program, including training and mentoring of teamsters, conducting horse drawn hayrides, and maintenance and care related the Farm Center’s draft horse teams. This position is part-time up to 1500 hours per year.
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Must maintain a valid Michigan driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
Extensive experience working with horses (carriage/wagon driving experience required).
Experience training people to work with animals (preferably horses).
Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
Able to understand and effectively carry out written and oral instructions.
Ability to work varied hours and in all weather conditions.
Ability to promote and maintain cooperative working relationships with schools, community groups, park patrons and co-workers.
Ability to perform essential functions.
Ability to traverse sandy, marshy and wooded areas with even or uneven terrain.
Must be able to learn new skills quickly, be resourceful and self-reliant, as well, as take initiative.
Knowledge of general animal husbandry.
Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 70 pounds.
Will be required to work assigned Special Events, Weekends, Evenings and Holidays.
Will be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs.
Ability to perform essential duties.
