GIS Technician

LOCATION: Administrative Office

BU / LEVEL: P4 Provisional

SALARY RANGE: $13.65 per hour DOQ 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Manager of Engineering the GIS Technician will perform varying data collection and mapping assignments. Typical duties will include the incorporation of existing property parcel records, infrastructure components, building data, and supplementary information into a central data base for GIS access by a multitude of users.  Working individually, in conjunction with the Engineering Department, and other Park staff, the technician will render data and develop visual maps for a variety of uses. This position is part-time up to 1500 hours per year.


Highly motivated, well-organized, and possess the willingness and physical endurance to work in all weather conditions. 
Candidates should possess or be working towards a degree in a related field. Experience with GIS and GPS. 
Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and maintenance of an acceptable driving record.
Ability to distinguish letters and symbols.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Ability to work varied hours depending upon park demands.
Ability to get along with co-workers, supervisors and park visitors.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
Will be required to work assigned Special Events, Weekends, Evenings and Holidays.
Will be required to adjust schedule to meet organizational needs.
Ability to perform essential duties.


Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices of data collection and software integration.
